Many questions have followed the Hebrew Calendar which have led to various interpretations and different methods of encountering and performing the moedim (appointed times) of יהוה. Camp Kadosh believes that the only interpretation to follow is the method ordained by יהוה and revealed in His Torah. Though many secular calendars follow a strictly solar calendar or mixture of lunar-solar (luni-solar) calendar to find the moedims of יהוה and additional secular holidays established by mankind, Torah reveals the thought of a strictly 12 month lunar cycle with nothing added and nothing to be taken away to encounter the moedim of יהוה.
As Hebrews striving to be Yisrael, Camp Kadosh observes what can clearly be seen in Torah, which is a strictly 12-month lunar calendar based on the cycle of the 8 lunar phases. We completely understand that this is in contrast with the Gregorian calendar, which is a solar calendar and internationally the most widely used civil calendar that is based on the revolution of the earth around the sun. It is also in contrast to the widely used luni-solar calendar whose date is based on the phases of the moon but also the time of the solar year. Those who use the luni-solar calendar believes that although the months follow a lunar cycle, they must align themselves with the seasons of the year which are governed by the sun; therefore, the months and years are established by both the cycles of the moon and the sun. Because there is a variation between the lunar year and the solar year, this calendar system adds a 13th month every 2-3 years to the calendar year, which they call a leap year.
We understand that by following a strictly 12-month lunar calendar, this sets us apart from other nations and we accept that. Torah has provided witnesses that this is the path of יהוה’s will for us.
1Kings/Melekim Alef 4:7
Solomon had twelve commissioners over all of Yisrael, who sustained the king and his household; each one sustained him one month out of the year.
This verse is specifically speaking about the sustenance that was provided to Prince Solomon for the year. If each commissioner was responsible for one month out of the year and there were only 12 commissioners, then we can accurately calculate that a year was the durations of 12 months.
The number twelve undoubtedly had important spiritual significance for our forefathers, The Children of Yisrael, as they were chosen, guided and taught by יהוה, their Power. Torah reveals יהוה’s sanctity of the number twelve and this instruction has been passed down to us and brought to light as scripture shows how He placed the number 12 over Patriarchs, used the number 12 in service to Him and pointed to the number twelve to inspire our forefathers to remember all the acts that He performed before them. Below are a few more witnesses to the concept of the number twelve and why Camp Kadosh believes that it is twelve, and not thirteen or any other number, being the divine order of months for a calendar year set and established by יהוה himself to be followed and taught now and forever by Camp Kadosh as long as He allows this camp to exist.

These scriptures and others that can be found in Torah confirm the validity of our observance of a twelve month calendar not solely because it was the tradition of our forefathers but because it is our inheritance and way of life. We want to continue to strive to be Hebrew Minded Yisraelites and this is reflected in the name of our Camp. The name Yisrael is a name that we wholeheartedly place upon ourselves because there is no other name under the Shamayim (Heavens) given to the Children of Yisrael.
